Moon.com KYC: what to upload and when
Moon.com verifies your identity before your first crypto deposit, not just at withdrawal. Do it once, with a government ID and a proof of address, and you're clear to fund the account and cash out without a hold-up later. This guide lists the documents, explains the timing, and covers the common reasons a check stalls.
Updated 10 September 2026. Facts sourced from moon.com and its help centre. Affiliate disclosure.
Moon.com KYC is a one-time identity check: a government-issued ID photographed front and back, plus a proof of address, submitted before your first deposit. Get it done on day one and the account is open for business, with crypto deposits and withdrawals both cleared in advance rather than queued behind a check when you want your money out. Sign up through our referral link, upload the two documents, and use the free play-money mode while you wait.
The important detail is the timing. Moon checks you before the first deposit and again before withdrawal, so verification is a gate at the front of the account, not a surprise at the back. By the time real money goes in, the paperwork is already behind you.
- front + back ID document
- 1 document Proof of address
- deposit + withdrawal Checked before
- crypto only Deposits
What documents does Moon.com KYC need?
Moon’s help center and terms describe two things every account has to provide, and a third that only some accounts will be asked for.
- Government-issued photo ID, front and back. A passport, national ID card or driver’s license issued by a government. Both sides are required, so photograph the back even if it looks blank.
- Proof of address. A document that shows your name and residential address. Moon’s help center does not publish an exact list of accepted document types, so check the upload screen for what it asks for and how recent it needs to be.
- Source-of-funds information (higher-risk accounts only). Moon’s terms allow enhanced due diligence for users it classifies as higher risk. That can include questions about where your money comes from, and it can be triggered before a deposit or a withdrawal.
Have the first two ready before you register. The check is faster to submit in one sitting than to come back to.
Quick checklist before you upload
- The name on your ID matches the name on your Moon account exactly.
- The name and address on your proof of address match the ID.
- All four corners of each document are visible in the photo.
- Photos are taken in good light, with no glare across the text or the photo.
- The proof of address is as recent as the upload screen asks for.
When does Moon.com verify you?
Twice, at the two points where money moves.
Before your first deposit. You can register and look around, but you cannot fund the account until the ID and proof-of-address check is done. Moon only supports cryptocurrency deposits, and the deposit screen is where you’ll find which coins are accepted; Moon hasn’t published a full list, so read it before sending anything.
Before withdrawal. KYC has to be complete here too. Because you already verified at deposit, this is normally a non-event, but withdrawals are also subject to AML/CTF checks, minimum and maximum limits and network fees. The deposits and withdrawals guide covers those limits and what to expect on the way out.
The practical upshot is that the account flow runs register, verify, deposit, bet, withdraw. If you’d rather see the betting mechanic first, the how it works guide walks through Up/Down bets, leverage and the fee stack.
Why does Moon verify before the first deposit?
Verifying before deposit is Moon’s own policy, set out in its terms of service and help center. Moon requires identity and address verification as a condition of funding the account, and it reserves the right to run enhanced due diligence, including source-of-funds questions, on accounts it considers higher risk. Doing the check up front means every balance on the platform belongs to a verified person before it is ever wagered, and it means withdrawals aren’t held up by a check that could have been done earlier. The rule is Moon’s, and the sensible response is to satisfy it early.
How long does Moon.com verification take?
Moon does not publish a verification time, and we’re not going to invent one. What we can say is that the check is a step between you and both deposits and withdrawals, so treat it as something to finish well before you need to move money. Submit your documents when you create the account, use the play-money mode in the meantime, and check your account status in the app rather than waiting for a fixed number of hours. If the status hasn’t moved and you’ve been waiting longer than seems reasonable, contact Moon support through the help center.
Why a KYC check stalls
These are the usual reasons a verification check gets sent back on any platform that runs KYC. They are general practice, not Moon-specific rules, but they cover most rejections.
- Blurry or cropped photos. A document that can’t be read can’t be checked. Use the rear camera, hold the phone steady, and make sure every edge of the card or page is inside the frame.
- Glare. Overhead lighting reflecting off a laminated ID hides the text and the photo. Move to indirect light or tilt the document slightly.
- Name mismatch. A nickname, a missing middle name, or a different spelling between your account and your ID is one of the most common reasons a check fails. Register with the exact name printed on your ID.
- Address document too old. Most KYC processes want a recent proof of address. If the upload screen states a maximum age, use a document inside that window.
- Address mismatch. If the address on your proof doesn’t match the address you entered at sign-up, one of them has to change.
- Wrong document type. A screenshot of an app, a photo of a photo or a document without your name on it will usually be rejected.
Fixing any of these is quick; not noticing them before you upload is what adds days.
Enhanced due diligence: what to expect
For most accounts, ID plus proof of address is the whole process. Moon’s terms also allow a deeper check for higher-risk users, and the phrase Moon uses is enhanced due diligence. In practice that means being asked where your funds come from and possibly for documents that support the answer. Moon doesn’t publish the criteria it uses to decide who gets flagged, so you can’t plan around it, but you can answer promptly and accurately if it happens. Having a clear record of how you acquired the crypto you intend to deposit makes this straightforward.
Verification protects your account, not your stake
KYC clears you to deposit and withdraw; it does nothing to the bet itself, and at 1000x a 0.1% move against you still ends the position before spread and fees, so size real-money bets as money you’ve already decided to lose.
After verification: deposits, bets and withdrawals
Once the check clears, the rest is quick. Deposits are crypto only, and your balance is usable once the network confirms. There is no welcome bonus at the time of writing; what our link gives you is Moon’s VIP track and rakeback of 3.5% of fees, which activates through approved affiliates or at Bronze VIP. Check your rewards tab after signing up to see what’s active on your account, and see the promo code page for how it works.
Withdrawals are subject to AML/CTF checks, minimum and maximum limits and network fees. Because KYC is already complete, the check at withdrawal is the AML review rather than a fresh document request, unless Moon’s enhanced due diligence kicks in.
Two last notes. Moon has no native app; it runs in the browser, with add-to-home-screen on mobile, so upload your documents from the browser rather than from a store app claiming to be Moon. And Moon restricts a list of jurisdictions at sign-up; the FAQ has the current version.
Verify first, and the rest of the account never gets in your way.
